چکیده

The Internet is providing worldwide connectivity for business organizations and has created a much greater opportunity for people to collaborate remotely. However, working on the Internet can be inefficient due to the Internet latency resulting from uncontrolled Internet traffic and finite bandwidth. In this paper, we investigate several research problems in distributed workflow management and propose architectures and techniques for improving workflow efficiency under Internet latency. More specifically, we explore new prefetching and proactive strategies for efficient workflow distribution and evaluate and compare their performance against the passive strategy found in the HTTP protocol. Our research results show that it is possible to improve performance considerably by means of these techniques especially for low-speed connections and mobile clients. Architectural Plan for Constructing Fault Tolerable Workflow Engines Based on Grid Service

In this paper the design and implementation of fault tolerable architecture for scientific workflow engines is presented. The engines are assumed to be implemented as composite web services. Current architectures for workflow engines do not make any considerations for substituting faulty web services with correct ones at run time. The difficulty is to rollback the execution state of the workflo...

E-science Workflow on the Grid

Grid computing, which can be characterized as large-scale distributed resource sharing and cooperation, has quickly become a mainstream technology in distributed computing. In this paper, we present the idea of applying certain grid workflow management techniques to mediate various services for grid-based e-science processes. The techniques of adaptable workflow services, aggressive sub-workflo...

Multi-objective and Scalable Heuristic Algorithm for Workflow Task Scheduling in Utility Grids

To use services transparently in a distributed environment, the Utility Grids develop a cyber-infrastructure. The parameters of the Quality of Service such as the allocation-cost and makespan have to be dealt with in order to schedule workflow application tasks in the Utility Grids. Optimization of both target parameters above is a challenge in a distributed environment and may conflict one an...
